Jan 21 (Reuters) – Temu’s Istanbul office was raided early Wednesday by Turkey’s competition authority, following a December raid on its Dublin European headquarters over alleged unfair Chinese state subsidies. A Temu spokesperson said the firm will cooperate fully and that laptops/computers were seized, but Turkey’s antitrust body denied the device seizure claim, calling it untrue, and stated the “on-site inspection” does not equal a formal investigation, with no further details to share for now.
Owned by PDD Holdings, Temu sells low-cost Chinese goods globally via direct shipping, leveraging duty waivers on low-value parcels—drawing backlash from European retailers over unfair advantages. The EU plans to end its €150 duty-free parcel allowance, while Turkey scrapped its €30 duty-free exemption earlier this month (effective early February) to protect local production and address import safety concerns. Temu opened its Istanbul office last year, registering a local entity in Turkey.
